During February 2010, Suzanne Hopper (An ex member of CYWO) and Judy Freeman (Brass and Percussion Tutor – Junior Section) travelled to Uganda with the aim of providing support and instruction to the Mbale Band.

Suzanne and Judy took with them gifts of a number of brass instruments donated by orchestra members that were presented to the Band. A special thanks to British Airways who supported this trip by allowing additional baggage allowances.

The orchestra has also donated £1,200 during 2010 to the The Foundation for the Development of Needy Communities, an NGO that administers the affairs of the Mabale Band in Uganda. Specifically, this money was provided to cover the costs of much needed repairs to the bus that is used by the band to travel to fee-paying engagements, the band project having been designed to enable its members to raise funds to help support both the band and its community

If you would like to make a monetary donation, please send cheques to The James Cox Memorial Fund, 33 Fern Close, Frimley, Surrey GU16 9QU, or direct to CYWO’s charity account with HSBC using sort code 40.08.21 and account number 21303929.
